Founded in 1901, Grambling State University is a historically black college located in Grambling, Louisiana. The university is a member-school of the University of Louisiana System and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Grambling State University offers over 50 undergraduate and graduate programs through its five colleges and schools. The university's athletic teams, nicknamed the Tigers, compete in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision.

Grambling State University was founded as the Colored Industrial and Agricultural School by the Louisiana State Legislature in 1901. The school was created in response to the 1890s Jim Crow laws that segregated public schools in Louisiana. The school's original mission was to provide educational and vocational training to African-American students. The school's first class consisted of just over 100 students and 10 faculty members.

In 1949, the school was renamed Grambling College in honor of Dr. F. D. Grambling, the school's president from 1942 to 1947. In 1974, the school attained university status and became Grambling State University.

Today, Grambling State University enrolls over 5,000 students from over 30 states and 30 countries. The university offers over 50 undergraduate and graduate programs through its five colleges and schools. The university's athletic teams, nicknamed the Tigers, compete in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision.
