Drexel University is a private research university with its main campus in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1891 as the Drexel Institute of Art, Science, and Industry by Anthony J. Drexel, a financier and philanthropist. Its mission was to provide educational opportunities in the "practical arts and sciences" for women and men of all backgrounds. The original mission of the institution was to serve the working class, and was based on the belief that higher education should be accessible to all.

Drexel University is now a comprehensive research university with over 24,000 students enrolled in over 170 degree programs across 16 schools and colleges.
