Case Western Reserve University is a private research university in Cleveland, Ohio. The university was created in 1967 by the merger of two previous institutions: Western Reserve University, founded in 1826, and Case Institute of Technology, founded in 1880. Both of these schools had their origins in the Western Reserve, a region of northeastern Ohio that was set aside as a reserve for the new United States in the late eighteenth century.

The university is organized into ten schools and colleges, including the Case School of Engineering, the School of Law, the Weatherhead School of Management, and the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing. In total, there are over 5,000 faculty members and more than 21,000 students enrolled at Case Western Reserve. The university is especially known for its programs in the health sciences and medicine, and is a leading research institution in a number of fields, including biomedicine, materials science, and engineering.

The university is located on a 156-acre (63-hectare) campus in the University Circle neighborhood of Cleveland. The campus is home to a number of notable buildings, including the Severance Hall music venue, the Allen Memorial Medical Library, and the Mandel Center for the Performing Arts. Case Western Reserve is a member of the Association of American Universities and is ranked among the top research universities in the United States.
