California State University-Chico (CSU-Chico) is a public university located in Chico, California. Founded in 1887, the university has an enrollment of over 17,000 students. The university offers bachelor's degrees in over 150 majors, as well as master's degrees and doctorates in select disciplines. CSU-Chico is a member of the California State University system and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

The university's history began in 1887 when the California Legislature established a normal school (teacher training college) in Chico. The school opened its doors in 1889 with a class of 91 students. In 1906, the school was renamed Chico State Normal School and began offering a four-year program leading to a teaching credential. In 1923, the name was changed again to Chico State Teachers College. In 1935, the college began offering a liberal arts curriculum and was renamed Chico State College. The college was granted university status in 1972 and became California State University, Chico.

Today, CSU-Chico is a comprehensive university offering over 150 undergraduate and graduate programs. The university is home to five colleges: the College of Agricultural Sciences, the College of Business, the College of Communication and Education, the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management, and the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The university's faculty includes over 800 full-time and over 1,200 part-time instructors.
