Boston College is a private research university in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, founded in 1863. It has 9,000 full-time undergraduates and almost 5,000 graduate students. The main campus is situated atop 500 acres (2.0 km2) on the southwest face of the Chestnut Hill plateau, overlooking the 830-acre (3.4 km2) Newton Cemetery. The university has two satellite campuses: in Downtown Boston and in the Boston suburb of Brighton.

The Boston College Eagles compete in the NCAA Division I as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). They are one of the oldest and most successful programs in the history of college athletics, with 25 national championships.

Boston College's Chestnut Hill campus features some of the earliest examples of Collegiate Gothic architecture in North America. The main campus is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Boston College offers bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and doctoral degrees through its nine schools and colleges: the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences, the Carroll School of Management, the Lynch School of Education and Human Development, the Connell School of Nursing, the School of Social Work, the School of Theology and Ministry, the Boston College Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the Boston College Law School, and the Woods College of Advancing Studies.
