Arkansas State University (A-State) is a public research university in Jonesboro, Arkansas. It is the flagship campus of the Arkansas State University System and the largest university in northeastern Arkansas. It is a member of the Sun Belt Conference. Founded in 1909 as an agricultural school, A-State now offers more than 200 degree programs. The university also has campuses in Beebe, Mountain Home, and Newport, all in Arkansas.

A-State was founded as the First District Agricultural School in Jonesboro in 1909. The school's mission was to train students in agriculture, horticulture, and related fields. The school became a land-grant college in 1925 and began offering bachelor's degrees in 1930. In 1967, the school was renamed Arkansas State University.

A-State has grown rapidly in recent years. The university's enrollment has increased from just over 5,000 in 2000 to more than 14,000 in 2016. The university's research expenditures have also grown, from $4 million in 2000 to $64 million in 2016. The university's economic impact on the region is estimated to be $1.6 billion.
