American Baptist College (ABC) is a private, historically black college affiliated with the American Baptist Churches USA. The college is located in Nashville, Tennessee. ABC was founded in 1924 as the Baptist Bible Institute by a group of Nashville businessmen and ministers. The institute was originally located on the campus of the First Baptist Church in Nashville. In its early years, the institute offered only two-year programs. In 1943, the institute was renamed the American Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1945, the seminary moved to its current location on Dr. D. B. Todd, Jr. Boulevard. The seminary began offering four-year programs in 1953 and was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1955. In 1974, the seminary was renamed American Baptist College. ABC offers bachelor's and master's degrees in a variety of disciplines. The college is committed to providing a quality education to its students, preparing them for leadership roles in the church and society.
